Clinical Workflows &
Ordering a Study
SLP to SLP: Let’s get your patients the imaging they deserve.
As a fellow treating SLP, I know exactly how frustrating it is to wait weeks for a hospital MBSS, only to receive a report that doesn't actually help you plan your therapy. At Swallowing Recovery Solutions, we act as a diagnostic extension of your rehab team. Our goal is to provide you with the immediate, high-definition anatomical visualization you need to confidently advance diets and justify your PDPM therapy minutes.
How to Order a Mobile FEES Study
We have made our workflow completely frictionless for your nursing staff.
1. The MD Order: Have your facility physician write an order for any of the following:
-
“FEES 92612”
-
“Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing”
-
“FEES Swallowing Test”
2. Send the Referral: Fax or securely email the physician's order and face sheet to our intake team at (888) 388-0893 / info@srsFEES.com
3. We Handle the Rest: We will coordinate with the facility SLP or staff within 48 hours of receipt of signed FEES order to schedule the visit.
The Day of the Evaluation: What to Expect
Collaboration, Not Competition
We strongly encourage the primary treating SLP to be present during the FEES procedure! You know your patient best. We collaborate with you to test specific compensatory strategies, postures, and diet consistencies tailored to your treatment plan.
Bonus: When you participate and provide compensatory strategies during the feeding trials, you can often still bill your standard Dysphagia Therapy code (CPT 92526) for your time!

Frequently Asked Questions About Working
with Swallow Recovery Solutions
Do I need to be present during the FEES procedure?
We highly encourage it!
You know your patient’s baseline and goals better than anyone. We view FEES as a collaborative diagnostic session. We want you in the room to help suggest specific compensatory strategies, postures, or diet consistencies you want tested so you can immediately build them into your treatment plan.
Can I still bill for my time if I attend the FEES study?
Yes!
As the treating SLP, you can typically bill for Dysphagia Therapy (CPT 92526) during the session for the time you spend providing compensatory strategies, skilled cueing, and therapeutic intervention while the endoscope is not actively being passed/manipulated in the patient's nose.
How quickly will I get the results? I don't want to hold up my therapy plan.
You won't have to wait.
We provide you and the Charge Nurse with an immediate verbal and brief written report of critical findings and diet recommendations before we even leave the building. A comprehensive, HIPAA-compliant digital report and video review will follow within 48 hours.
What if my patient or their family is anxious about the "camera"?
We completely understand.
We are highly trained in using comforting, non-threatening language to guide patients through the procedure. We emphasize that the scope is tiny, they can breathe and speak normally throughout the test, and there is no radiation or gross-tasting barium! We also have a printable "Patient Guide to FEES" you can hand out to help get patient and POA buy-in.
Can you perform FEES on my patients who are on ventilators, have trachs, or are on isolation precautions?
Absolutely.
This is where Mobile FEES truly shines compared to an MBSS. Because we bring the equipment to the bedside, we can easily and safely evaluate your most complex, high-acuity patients in their habitual resting positions without the risks of hospital transport.
Can we test specific foods the patient has been struggling with?
Yes!
Unlike an MBSS where patients have to drink barium-coated substances, we test with real food and liquids. If your patient is specifically struggling to swallow their daily pills, dry bread, or a specific type of meat, have the kitchen prep it, and we will test it during the exam!
